How to add currency symbols in Excel?

Add currency symbol to numbers with shortcut keys
This method will use Ctrl, Shift, and the dollar sign (4) on your keyboard. Easy to use and remember.
1. Select any cell(s) with a numeric value where you want to add a currency symbol.
2. Press and hold down Ctrl + Shift, then press the dollar sign (4).
The shortcut is to apply the Currency format with two decimals and thousands separator (,). This is how it looks after applying the trick on columns B and D:
Add currency symbol to formula results by adding a trick to formula
As we can see from the table below, there are no currency symbols before the values in the revenue column, which are results returned by formulas. To add currency symbol to formula results, you can add “currency symbol”& after equal sign (=) of a formula. Let's say we need to add the dollar sign ($) before the below formula results, please do as follows:
1. For the formula =SUMPRODUCT(B2,C2), we can add "$"& after the equal sign (=) of the formula, so the formula becomes: ="$"&SUMPRODUCT(B2,C2).
2. Press ENTER to get the result.
Now you can see a dollar sign is appearred before the formula's result. Then you can copy the formula to the cells below by dragging the fill handle down.

Add currency symbols to numbers with Format Cells feature in Excel
There are 2 ways to add currency symbols in cells with the Format Cells feature --- Currency formats and Accounting formats. First, let’s take a look at the differences between the two formats:

Use Currency formats
Let’s say you want to add currency symbols to columns B and D:
1. Select one of the columns, hold Ctrl and select the other one.
2. Choose a way you like to open the Format Cells window:
a. Press Ctrl + 1.
b. Right-click on any selected cell(s), click Format Cells on the context menu.
c. Click the Dialog Box Launcher next to Number on the Home tab of Excel.
3. Go to Currency under the Number tab. Set the decimal places, currency symbol, and format for negative numbers.
4. Click OK.
Use Accounting formats
Here is the same example to add currency symbols to columns B and D:
1. Select one of the columns, hold Ctrl and select the other one.
2. Choose a way you like to open the Format Cells window:
a. Press Ctrl + 1.
b. Right-click on any selected cell(s), click Format Cells on the context menu.
c. Click the Dialog Box Launcher next to Number on the Home tab of Excel.
3. Go to Accounting under the Number tab. Set the decimal places and currency symbol.
4. Click OK.
√ Note: To remove the currency formatting of specific cells, you should select the cells first, then open the Format Cells window and go to General under the Number tab, click OK.
