While using Microsoft Excel, you may need to repeat typing some contents that you frequently used. Have you ever tried to save the frequently used contents in Excel and reuse them without repeatedly typing? Here, the Resource Library utility of Kutools for Excel can do you a favor. Click Kutools > Insert > Resource Library. See screenshot:


Reuse a favorite chart by adding a chart as an AutoText entry

With the Resource Library utility of Kutools for Excel, you can save your favorite chart as an AutoText entry. Please do as follows.

1. Click Kutools > Insert > Resource Library to enable the Resource Library pane.

Note: By default, the Resource Library pane locates on the left side of Excel.

2. Please select a chart that you want to save as auto text, and then click the Add selected content to Resource Library  button in the Resource Library pane. See screenshot:

3. In the New Resource Library entry dialog box, please configure as follows.

3.1) Type a name for the chart in Name box;
3.2) Select a group from Group drop-down list;
3.3) Or you can create a new group or a subgroup for the selected group by clicking the Add group drop-down and selecting Add group or Add sub group from the drop-down.
3.4) Click the Add button.

Note: After clicking Add group or Add sub group, a Kutools for Excel dialog box will pop up, please type in the group name and then click the OK button.

Then you can see the selected chart is successfully added as AutoText entry.

4. For using this chart, you can just click on this chart in the Resource Library pane to insert it to anywhere of any workbook you need.

Besides, if you want to insert this chart as picture in Excel, put your cursor on this chart and click the drop-down icon, click Insert as and then select a picture type in the list menu. See screenshot:


Reuse a range of data by adding it as an AutoText entry

In this section, you will learn how to create a range of data as AutoText entry and easily use it in Excel.

1. After enabling the Resource Library pane by clicking Kutools > Insert > Resource Library. Please select a range of data which you want to add as AutoText entry.

2. Then create an auto text entry with the selected range as follows.

2.1) Click the Add selected content to resource library button in the Resource Library pane;
2.2) In the New Resource Library entry dialog box, enter a name for this AutoText into the Name box;
2.3) Select a group in the Group drop-down list;
2.4) Or you can create a new group or a subgroup for the selected group by clicking the Add group drop-down and selecting Add group or Add sub group from the drop-down. See screenshot:
2.5) Click the Add button.

Note: After clicking Add group or Add sub group, a Kutools for Excel dialog box will pop up, please type in the group name and then click the OK button.

Then the selected range is added as AutoText entry and located in the specified group.

4. For using this AutoText entry, please do as follows:

1). For inserting it as text, please select a cell in worksheet to output the range, get into the group, and then click on the entry directly to insert it. See screenshot:

2). For entering it as picture, put the cursor on this entry, click the drop-down icon > Insert as, and then click Bitmap or Picture (EMF) in the list menu.


Reuse any formulas by adding them as AutoText entries

Formulas are very useful for most of the Excel users, if there are multiple formulas in your workbook and you always use them as your daily work. You can add the formula as AutoText and insert it in worksheet as follows.

1. After enabling the Resource Library pane, click the cell with formula you want to add as AutoText entry.

2. Now the cell formula will display in the Formula Bar, select it in the formula bar, and then click the Add selected content to Resource Library  button in the Resource Library pane. See screenshot:

3. In the Add Resource Library entry dialog box, please configure as follows.

3.1) Type a name for the chart in Name box;
3.2) Select a group from Group drop-down list;
3.3) Or you can create a new group or a subgroup for the selected group by clicking the Add group drop-down and selecting Add group or Add sub group from the drop-down.
3.4) Click the Add button.

4. For using this new AutoText entry, get into the Formulas group in the Resource Library pane, and then click it to insert to the worksheet. After inserting the formula, you just need to change the cell reference to your need.


Reuse any clip arts or pictures by adding them as AutoText

In addition to charts, ranges and formulas which you can add as AutoText entry, the clip arts or pictures can also be added as AutoText entry with the Resource Library utility of Kutools for Excel.

The method of adding and using clip arts or pictures as AutoText entry is the same as the method we introduce above. You can follow the above steps to finish this clip arts or pictures AutoText entry creating and using.


Easily transfer the saved AutoText entries by exporting or importing feature

If you need to reinstall your computer or shift to a new computer, for the sake of keeping the AutoText entry you have created, you can use the export and import functions of the Resource Library.

Open the AutoText pane with clicking Kutools > Insert > Resource Library.

Export the AutoText entry

1. In the Resource Library pane, click the  drop down button, and then select Export Resource Library. See screenshot:

2. In the Export Resource Library dialog box, and in the Please select the group section, check the resource library groups you want to export, and then click the button.

  • Click the Select all button will select all resource library groups at the same time;
  • Click the Inverse button will reverse all selection immediately.

3. In the popping up Save As dialog box, select a folder for saving the auto text, and then click the Save button. See screenshot:

4. When it returns to the Export Resource Library dialog box, click the OK button. Then a Kutools for Excel dialog box pops up, click OK.

Import the AutoText entry

1. In the Resource Library pane, click the  drop down button, and then click Import Resource Library, see screenshot:

2. In the Import Resource Library dialog box, click the button.

Note: You can check the Delete the old Resource Library box to remove the original resource library.

3. In the Open dialog box, select the resource library file you have exported, and then click the Open button.

4. If there are duplicate group names exist, a warning message box will pop out to remind you to merge the duplicate resource library group or not. (Click OK to merge the same name resource library group into one, or click Cancel to import theresource library as normal.)

Tips:

1. You can add a new group or a sub group to selected group by clicking the Add Group drop-down list, selecting Add root group or Add sub group to selected group from the drop-down, naming the group in the popoing up dialog, and then clicking OK to save the settings.

2. For renaming a resource library group, please select it in the pane, and then click the Rename current Resource Library group button. In the popping up dialog box, enter your new name, and then click the OK button. See screenshot:

3. For renaming resource library entry, please click the drop-down icon of the resource library entry, select Rename in the list. In the Kutools for Excel dialog box, type a new name for it and then click the OK button.

4. To delete one of the resource libraries, you just need to click the close button beside the group names. But if you want to delete a resource library entry, please click the drop-down icon of the entry, and then click Delete in the list menu, see screenshot:

5. If there are numbers of resource library entries in a group, you can apply the Filter option to filter the needed one quickly by checkingg the Filter box, and then typing the entry name into the textbox. See screenshot:

6.  Show preview in Resource Library list button: Click this button to show or hide the preview in the Resource Library list box as the below screenshot shown.

7.  Show floating preview of Resource Library entry button: After enabling this feature, when moving the mouse over the Resource Library entry, the floating preview of this entry will come out automatically. See screenshot:

Can I create an Auto Text chart that will be updated depending on where it's pasted?
