Author: Xiaoyang Last Modified: 2024-07-15

In Excel, rounding numbers is a common task, essential for data presentation and analysis. Whether you're preparing financial reports or adjusting calculations for accuracy, knowing how to round, round up, or round down numbers is crucial. While Excel offers built-in functions for these tasks, not everyone finds them straightforward. This guide will introduce you to both formula-based methods and a tool-based approach using Kutools for Excel, ensuring you can round numbers easily and effectively.

Excel provides three primary functions for rounding numbers to your desired precision:

Round   Rounds a number to specified decimal points.
Round Up   Always rounds the last digit up to the next value.
Round Down   Always rounds the last digit downward.

Here’s the syntax for these functions:

  • Round(number,num_digits)
  • RoundUp(number,num_digits)
  • Rounddown(number,num_digits)

Here, the number argument refers to the value you wish to round, and num_digits specifies the number of decimal places to round to.

I will take Round function for example, you can apply the functions as followings steps:

1. Enter the formula below in a blank cell, such as C1. Press the Enter key.

=ROUND(A1, 2)

2. Select cell C1, then drag the fill handle across the range you need. This action rounds all numbers to two decimal points. See screenshot:

  • As they are formulas, you must copy and paste them as values.
  • You can do as this for the RoundUp or RoundDown function as well.
