How to split date and time from a cell to two separated cells in Excel?

For instance, you have a list of data mixed with date and time, and you want to split each of them into two cells, one is date and another is time as below screenshots shown. Now I give you two quick methods to solve it in Excel.

If you use copy and paste functions to copy the each date and time one by one, it is time-waste. Here are some formulas can help you quickly split the date and time.

1. Select a column range that you want to put the date results only, and right click to select Format Cells from the context menu. See screenshot:

2. In the Format Cells dialog, under Number tab, click Date from Category section, the go to Type list to select a date type you need. See screenshot:doc split date time 3

3. Click OK to close the dialog. Then go to select another column range you want to put the time only and format them as the time type you need. See screenshot:doc split date time 4

4. Click OK to close the Format Cells dialog. Then in the first cell of the Date column (except the header), type this formula =INT(A2) (A2 is the cell you need to split by), then drag the fill handle to the range needed to apply this formula. See screenshots:

5. Go to the first cell of Time column (except header) and type this formula =A2-C2 (A2 is the cell you split by, and C2 is the date cell), and drag fill handle over the range you need. See screenshots:

Hi, Lojain Lafi, I have create a list of dates which the first fields are days as the picture uploaded seen. The first method can work. But be sure that, the dates are still strored as numbers in your sheet, otherwise the formula INT() cannot to get the correct result.
To make sure the dates are numbers stored in Excel, you can type the dates in standarded format firstly, such as 3/12/2022 4:12:30 (m/d/yyyy hh:mm:ss), then select them to format to a custom formatting d/m/yyyy hh:mm:ss. Now the first field in the date is day, but the date also stored as number in Excel, you can use above methods to split datetime into two columns.

Hello, Avinash Wadkar, could you tell me clearly which one is bill number and date? If 002/18-19 is the bill no, and 5-4-2018 is the date, just using text to columns utility, and split them by space.

Use formula =TEXT(A1,"00000000") to add leading zeros to the strings, then copy the results and paste them as values, then use this formula =DATE(RIGHT(C1,4),MID(C1,3,2),LEFT(C1,2)) to convert them to the standard date format.
