In this example, I want to sum all cell values in column B when their adjacent cells in column A start with the number 2017, the following formula can do you a favor, please do as this:

Enter this formula: =SUMPRODUCT((LEFT(A2:A13,4)+0=2017)*(B2:B13)) into a blank cell where you want to output the result, and then press Enter key to get the correct result, see screenshot:

Note: In the above formula, A2:A13 contains the criteria that you want to sum based on, the number 4 and 2017 indicate that you want to sum based on first four numbers which start with 2017, and B2:B13 is the column that you want to sum cells. Please change the cell references to your need.
