How to disable permanently delete sound in Outlook?

You may notice that it will alert with a warning sound when we permanently delete items in Microsoft Outlook. However, the warning sound may be harsh and some users want to disable it. Here I will introduce the detailed steps about how to disable the permanently deleting sound in Microsoft Outlook.

To disable the permanently deleting sound in Microsoft Outlook, you can do as following:

Step 1: Access the Control Panel:

  1. In Windows 7, please click the Start button at the bottom-left corner of Taskbar > Control Pane.
  2. In Windows 8, Swipe in from the very right edge of the screen, click the Settings button, and then click the Control Panel. See screen shots below:

    

Step 2: In the Control Panel, firstly you need to show items in Small icons view with clicking the text besides View by and select the Small icons from the drop down list; next click the Sound item.

Step 3: Now you get into the Sound dialog box, go to the Sounds tab, and:

(1) Click to highlight the Exclamation in the Program Events box;

(2) Click the Sounds box below the Program Events box, and select (None) from the drop down list.

(3) Click the OK button.

Step 4: Close the Control Panel.

After changing the sound of Exclamation to None in the Control Panel, it will not alert with warning sound when your permanently delete items in Microsoft Outlook.

Note: This method will affect other programs using the sound of Exclamation.

Me too Hannah - It was so hard to find by looking for it myself, across many times - until I googled it, just now. It worked, the annoying sound is gone. Annoyance after all these years too - unbelievable. Microsoft does not do things as intuition suggests - always logical and not creatively intuitive. They should be truly User friendly. I had to change "Default Beep" to "None" for it to work for me.

It did not work. None set for Exclamation but still get the sound.
