How to open Outlook with password?

For the sake of the safety of your Outlook information, offering a password to your email account is necessary. After adding a password to the email account, Outlook will automatically ask for the password when starting. Please browse the following article to learn how to add a password to an email account in Outlook.

Open Outlook with the password in the pst data file email account

For the pst data file email account, you need to add a password to this email account in order to open it with a password. Please do as follows.

1. Open the "Account Settings" dialog box.

1). In Outlook 2010 and 2013, click "File" > "Info" > "Account Settings" > "Account Settings". See screenshot:

2. In the "Account Settings" dialog box, go to the "Data Files" tab, select the pst-file email account you need to add a password to, and click the "Settings" button.

3. In the "Outlook Data File"/"Personal Folder" dialog box, click the "Change Password" button. See screenshot:

4. In the "Change Password" dialog box, please do as follows.

1). If you have not set a password before, please keep the "Old password" box blank;

2). Enter a new password in the "New password" box;

3). Retype the new password in the "Verify password" box;

4). Click the "OK" button. See screenshot:

5. Click the "OK" button in the "Outlook Data File"/"Personal Folder" dialog box. And then close the "Account Settings" dialog box.

From now on, when you start Outlook, an "Outlook Data File Password" dialog box will pop up. You need to enter the password in order to open the email folder.

Tip: If you want to cancel this password, you just need to enter your password into the "Old password" box and leave the "New password" and "Verify password" boxes empty in the above "Change Password" dialog box.


Open Outlook with the password in the Exchange account

For an Exchange account, you need to add a password as follows.

1. Open the "Account Settings" dialog box.

1). In Outlook 2010 and 2013, click "File" > "Info" > "Account Settings" > "Account Settings". See screenshot:

2. In the "Account Settings" dialog box, select the Exchange account data file, then click the "Settings" button under the "Data Files" tab. See screenshot:

3. In the "Microsoft Exchange" dialog box, click the "Security" tab, check the "Always prompt for logon credentials" box, and finally click the "OK" button.

4. Close the "Account Settings" dialog box.

From now on, when you open Outlook, a "Windows Security" dialog box will pop up for you to enter the password.

Tip: To cancel this password when opening Outlook, you just need to uncheck the "Always prompt for logon credentials" box in the "Microsoft Exchange" dialog box.

Notes:

1. Different from the pst-file account, for the Exchange account, the password is the one you created when setting up your Exchange account;

2. When the "Windows Security" dialog box pops up, you can still browse the Exchange email folders. But you cannot update the Exchange account until you enter the password.
