How to allow in-cell editing in Outlook folders?

Let’s say you want to change an email’s subject line in the mail folder directly in Outlook, how could you get it done? If you have enabled the Allow in-cell editing option for this folder, you can achieve it easily by clicking.

To edit an email in the mail folder directly, you can enable the Allow in-cell editing option as follows:

1. Select the folder where you want to allow in-cell editing, and click View > View Settings. See screenshot:

2. In the opening Advanced View Settings dialog box, please click the Other Settings button. See screenshot:

3. Now the Other Settings dialog box comes out, please check the Allow in-cell editing option, and click the OK buttons successively to close both dialog boxes.

4. Now you return to the folder, please go ahead to click View > Reading Pane > Off to turn off the reading pane. See screenshot:

From now on, when clicking at the subject of one email, you will see the subject is editable. See screenshot:

Note: It recommends to turn off the conversation view (with unchecking the Show as Conversation option on the View tab) when you are in-cell editing in an Outlook folder.

Thank you! I was doing all the steps, except turning the reading pane off! It works. I'd really like to see the reading pane, but I can live without it!
