Creating a chart based on cell colour in a column

Hi all,

I have a spreadsheet with two key columns, a name and a date. The date columns will go red if the date falls too far behind, orange if it is approaching red and green if recently passed.

Would there be a way to create a chart that shows how many cells are red, orange and green based solely on the cell colour? All I've managed to find on google is how to change the colour of the chart based on cell colour! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated
