## Quickly round cell values without formula in Excel

### Kutools for Excel

Boosts Excel With 300+

Powerful Features

In Excel, there are occasions when we need to round cell values either up or down. However, employing the typical roundup or round down formulas does not alter the actual cell values post-rounding. **Kutools for Excel**'s **Round** utility offers a straightforward solution, allowing you to efficiently perform the rounding operations with ease.

- Round numbers to a specified number of digits
- Round numbers up, away from zero
- Round numbers down, closer to zero
- Round half to even

#### Advantages of using the "Round" feature

**Diverse Rounding Options**:Four rounding options are provided in a single dialog box to enhance flexibility for various rounding needs:**Simplified operation**:Users can easily round selected cells without manually entering round formulas, making the process simpler and more direct.**Batch Processing**:It allows users to select multiple cells or ranges for rounding in one go, significantly saving time and effort when dealing with large datasets.**Modify cell data directly**:It can directly modify cell data, unlike formulas that merely calculate and present outcomes without altering the underlying data in the source cells, eliminating the need for extra steps to convert formula results into actual values.**Easy to use, just a few clicks away**:It has an intuitive interface, allowing users without advanced Excel knowledge to easily apply rounding with just a few clicks.**Avoids Formula Dependency**:By operating directly on cell data rather than relying on underlying formulas, it reduces spreadsheet complexity and, in some cases, improves worksheet performance.**Saves Time and Effort**:For users dealing with large datasets, manually rounding numbers or writing formulas can be time-consuming. This feature significantly reduces time and minimizes errors.

- Select the range of cells where you want to round the numbers.
- Go to the
**Kutools**tab, select**Round**in the**Ranges & Cells**group. - In the opening
**Round without Formula**dialog box, you can accomplish different rounding operations as follows.##### Round numbers to a specified number of digits

**Standard Rounding**: This is the most common rounding method, typically following the "round half up" rule. If the digit following the rounding digit is less than 5, it rounds down; if it's 5 or greater, it rounds up. For example, 2.4 rounded to the nearest whole number is 2, while 2.5 rounded to the nearest whole number is 3.If you want to round numbers to a specified number of digits, specify the**decimal place**(here I enter the number 2), choose the**Rounding**option and click the**OK**button.**Result**All numbers in the selected range are rounded to the specified number of decimal places.**Tip**: This option works the same as the formula**=ROUND(number, num_digits)**.##### Round numbers up, away from zero

**Rounding Up**: Regardless of what the next digit is, always round up to the larger number. This rounding method is often used to ensure that the result does not fall below the original value, suitable for scenarios where resource sufficiency needs to be guaranteed. For example, 2.1 rounded up to the nearest whole number is 3.If you want to round numbers up, specify the**decimal place**(here I enter the number 2), choose the**Rounding up**option and click the**OK**button.**Result**All numbers in the selected range are rounded up to the specified number of decimal places.**Tip**: This option works the same as the formula**=ROUNDUP(number, num_digits)**.##### Round numbers down, closer to zero

**Rounding Down**: Regardless of what the next digit is, always round down to the smaller number. This method can be used in situations where you want to ensure that the result does not exceed the original value. For example, 2.9 rounded down to the nearest whole number is 2.If you want to round numbers down, specify the**decimal place**(here I enter the number 2), choose the**Rounding down**option and click the**OK**button.**Result**All numbers in the selected range are rounded down to the specified number of decimal places.**Tip**: This option works the same as the formula**=ROUNDDOWN (number, num_digits)**.##### Round half to even

**Rounding Half to Even**: Also known as "banker's rounding," this rounds a number to the nearest even number when it is exactly halfway between two numbers. This approach helps reduce overall bias in large datasets. For example, 2.5 rounded to the nearest even number is 2, and 3.5 rounded to the nearest even number is 4.To perform “round half to even” for numbers in selected range, specify the**decimal place**(here I enter the number 2), choose the**Rounding to Even**option and click the**OK**button.**Result**After applying the operation, you can see the result as follows:- When the digit to be discarded is
**less than 5**, it is simply dropped. For example,**0.9345**becomes**0.93**. - When the digit to be discarded is
**more than 5**, it rounds up. For example,**11.238**becomes**11.24**. - When the digit to be discarded is
**exactly 5**, and there are no other digits after 5 or only zeros after 5, the decision is based on whether the digit before 5 is odd or even. If it is odd, it rounds up (to an even number); if it is even, it rounds down (stays even). For example,**21.235**becomes**21.24**(because 3 is odd, it rounds up), while**98.885**becomes**98.88**(because 8 is already even).

- When the digit to be discarded is

**Notes**:

- This feature can be used in multiple ranges at the same time.
- This feature supports
**undo**(**Ctrl**+**Z**).
