Normally if you want to convert numbers which might be formatted and stored in cells as text to be stored as numbers in Excel, you need to activate the related Error checking rules in Formula category of Excel Option dialog box, and select a range to convert text to number by clicking the error button to choose Convert to Number. But with Kutools for Excel 's Convert between Text and Number utility, you can convert number stored as text to number or convert number to be formatted or stored as text easily.

Click Kutools > Conversion > Convert between Text and Number. See screenshot:
Tips: If you have changed your Toolbar Mode to Narrow, you need to click Kutools > Content > Convert between Text and Number to enable this feature.
Convert or force numbers stored as text to numbers in a range
Supposing you want to convert or force text (numbers have been stored as text in cells) to number in a range as shown in the below screenshot. You can get it done with the Convert between Text and Number utility as follows:
1. Select the range you want to convert text to number, and apply the utility (Click Kutools > Conversion or Content > Convert between Text and Number).
2. Select the Text to number option. See screenshot:
3. Click Ok or Apply button. You will see the results as shown in the below screenshots. Tip: If you want to apply the functions of this utility to a new range after this operation, please click Apply button. It will not close the utility, and you can apply it to a new range of cells. Click Ok will close the utility.

Convert or force numbers to be stored as text in a range
Supposing you want to convert or force numbers to be stored as text in a range as shown in the below screenshot. You can get it done with the Convert between Text and Number utility as follows:
1. Select the range you want to convert number to text, and apply the utility (Click Kutools > Conversion or Content > Convert between Text and Number).
2. Select the Number to text option. See screenshot:
3. Click Ok or Apply button. You will see the results as shown in the below screenshots. Tip: If you want to apply the functions of this utility to a new range after this operation, please click Apply button. It will not close the utility, and you can apply it to a new range of cells. Click Ok will close the utility.

Notes:
1. This tool supports Undo (Ctrl + Z) shortcuts.
2. This tool will convert numbers / values in cells that are preceded by an apostrophe.
