Quickly convert time to seconds/minutes/hours in Excel

For example we have a time data in Cell A1, such as 11:10:03 AM. Normally we can convert the time to seconds with applying formula =A1*86400 (or convert to minutes with formula =A1*1440, or convert to hours with formula =A1*24), and then format the formula cell as General or Number. Kutools for Excel's Convert Time utility can simplify the operation, and help you convert a mass of HH:MM:SS formatting data to seconds/minutes/hours in Excel with only one click.

Convert time to seconds/minutes/hours with functions in Excel

To convert a range of time data to seconds only with one click in Excel, please do as follows:

1. Select the range of time data that you will convert to seconds.

2. Click the Kutools > Content > Convert Time > Time to Seconds.

Now a dialog box comes out to tell you how many time data have been converted successfully. Just close it.

Then you will see all time data in the selected range are converted to seconds immediately.

Note: If you want to save the converted seconds to another range without changing original time data, please view this method.

If you need to convert time data to minutes in Excel, you can do as follows:

1. Select the range of time data that you will convert to minutes.

2. Click the Kutools > Content > Convert Time > Time to Minutes.

Now a dialog box pops up to show the quantity of converted time data, just close it. And then you will see all time data in the selected range are converted to minutes at once.

Note: If you need to save the conversion results to other place in Excel, please view this method.

To quickly change time data to hours only by one click in Excel, please do as follows:

1. Select the range of time data that you will convert to hours only.

2. Click the Kutools > Content > Convert Time > Time to Hours.

A dialog box will open to display how many time data have been converted successfully, just close it. And then you will see all time data are converted to hours only at once.

Note: If you need to save the conversion results to other place in Excel, please view this method.

All methods above will replace original time data with conversion results directly. If you want to prevent original time data from being deleting, you can try this method as follows:

1. Select the range of time data that you will convert to seconds/minutes/hours, and then click Kutools > Content > Convert Time > Convert Time. 

2. In the opening Convert Time dialog box, specify one conversion type in the Convert Type section, check the Save to another location option, and then specify the destination range in the Save to box. See screenshot below:

3. Click the Ok button. Then a Kutools for Excel dialog box comes out to show how many time data have been converted, just close it.

Now you will see the selected time data have been converted to seconds (or minutes/hours), and the conversion results are placed into the specified destination range.

Note: This utility can only be applied to the HH:MM:SS time format data.
