Excel CRITBINOM Function
The CRITBINOM function returns the smallest value for which the cumulative binomial distribution is greater than or equal to a criterion value.
Syntax
=CRITBINOM(trials, probability_s, alpha)
Arguments
- trials (required): The number of independent trials. It must be greater than or equal to 0.
- probability_s (required): The probability of success in each trial. It must be between 0 and 1.
- alpha (required): The criterion value of the Cumulative Binomial Distribution. It must be between 0 and 1.
Return Value
The CRITBINOM function returns a numeric value.
Function Notes
- If trials is not an integer, the CRITBINOM will truncate it to an integer.
- The #VALUE! error value occurs when any of the arguments is non-numeric.
- The #NUM! error value occurs if:
- trials < 0.
- probability_s ≤ 0 or probability_s ≥ 1.
- alpha ≤ 0 or alpha ≥ 1.
Example
To calculate the smallest value for which the cumulative binomial distribution is greater than or equal to a criterion value based on the data provided in the table below, please copy or enter the below formula in the result cell (D7), and press Enter to get the result.
=CRITBINOM(B7,B10,B13)
Also, you can type the actual trials, probability_s, and alpha values in the formula as shown below.
=CRITBINOM(100,0.5,0.1)
