How to sort multiple columns from left to right in Excel?
You may meet some tables or ranges as following screen shot shows occasionally. It is easy to perform a vertical sort in one column. But how could you sort multiple columns horizontally from left to right across several columns in Excel? Such as to sort the sales amount in January from left to right in the following screenshot. This article will guide you to sort multiple columns from left to right in Excel.
Step 1: Select the range that you will sort columns horizontally. In this case, select the B1:F8.
Step 2: Click the biggest Sort button in Sort & Filter group under Data tab. See the following screen shot:
You can also click the Home >> Sort & Filter >> Custom.
Step 3: In the Sort dialog box, click the Options button at the header, see the following screen shot.
Step 4: Now Sort Options dialog box pops up, check the Sort left to right option and click OK.
Step 5: And then you will go back to the Sort dialog box, specify the sorting rows and sorting orders based on your needs.
Step 6: Click OK.
Then it sorts the selected columns from left to right based on the sorting row specified in Step 5.
Please note that Microsoft Excel will remember your modification of sorting orientation in Step 4. It means that it will sort horizontally from left to right when you perform a sort next time in Excel.
