One way to prevent Outlook from closing accidentally is by using an unsent email as a reminder. When attempting to close Outlook, a prompt will appear, allowing you to confirm whether you want to proceed.

Step 1: Create a New Email

Open Outlook, and click New Email under the Home tab to create a new message.

Step 2: Compose a Dummy Email

  1. In the To field, enter your own email address.
  2. Add a subject in the Subject field (e.g., "Reminder to Prevent Closure").

Step 3: Set a Future Delivery Date

  1. Click File > Info > Properties in the email window.

  2. In the Properties dialog box, under the Delivery options section, please check the Do not deliver before box and set a delivery date far into the future (e.g., a year or more). Click Close to save the changes.

Step 4: Send the Email

Back in the email window, click Send. This email will remain in your Outbox until the specified delivery date.

When you click the Close or Exit button in Outlook, a prompt will appear, warning you about an unsent email in the Outbox.

  • If you want to exit Outlook, click Exit and Send Later.
  • If you closed Outlook accidentally, click Don’t Exit to keep Outlook running.

Step 1: Activate the Close to Minimize Feature

Go to the Kutools Plus tab in Outlook. Then Click Views > Close To Minimize.

Result: Minimizing Instead of Closing

After enabling the feature, clicking the Close button in the top-right corner of the Outlook window will minimize the application to the system tray instead of closing it.

Tips:
  • To close Outlook, right-click the Outlook icon in the system tray and select Exit Outlook.
  • To disable the feature and return to the default behavior, return to Kutools Plus tab and click Close To Minimize again.
