Undo changes using the Undo button in Word
Word provides an Undo function to revert actions.
- Click the Undo icon in the toolbar repeatedly to revert changes step by step.
- To undo multiple actions at once, click the drop-down arrow next to the Undo icon and select a specific point from the history.

A quicker way to undo changes is by using keyboard shortcuts:
- Press Ctrl + Z to undo one action.
- Continue pressing Ctrl + Z to revert multiple changes.
Undo all changes by reopening the document
If you have made extensive changes, neither clicking Undo nor using shortcuts may be efficient. Reopening the document without saving can help.
- Close the document without saving changes.
- When prompted, click Don’t Save to discard all modifications.
When you reopen the document, all unsaved changes will be discarded, restoring the last saved version.
One click to undo all changes with Kutools for Word
Instead of manually clicking Undo, pressing shortcuts, or reopening the document, Kutools for Word provides a one-click solution to restore the document to its last saved version.
- Click Kutools Plus > Reload.
- After clicking Reload, a confirmation window will appear. Click Don’t Save to discard all changes and restore the last saved version.
Notes:
- The Reload function only works for saved documents and restores the last saved version.
- If no changes have been made, clicking Reload will have no effect.
- This method eliminates the need to manually close and reopen the document.
