Excel MROUND Function
The MROUND function returns a number rounded to the nearest specified multiple.
Syntax
=MROUND(number, multiple)
Arguments
- number (required): The number to be rounded.
- multiple (required): The number to which you want to round number.
Return Value
The MROUND function returns a numeric value.
Function Notes
- MROUND will return the #VALUE! error if either of the arguments is not numeric.
- MROUND will return the #NUM! error if number and multiple have different signs.
- MROUND will return a result in the same sign as number and multiple.
Example
Supposing you have a table with numbers and multiples as shown below, to round the number 5 to the nearest multiple of 2, please copy or enter the formula below in a blank cell, and press Enter to get the result:
=MROUND(5,2)
Note that in the formula above, we used the actual values. However, in the case that you have a table as shown below, cell references are better choices than the actual values. Since you can just drag the fill handle down to apply the formula to the below cells after entering the formula with cell references in the top cell. The formula with cell references is as followed:
=MROUND(B4,C4)
Example to round times
As shown in the timetable below, to round the times up or down to the nearest certain minutes, you can also use the MROUND function. Please copy or enter the formula below in cell D3, and press Enter to get the result:
=MOD(B3,C3)
√ Note: After entering the formula, drag the fill handle down to apply the formula to the below cells.
√ Note: To make the results show properly in time format as shown above, you should apply the Format Cells feature: Select the cells where you want to apply the feature, then press Ctrl + 1. Under the tab Number in the pop-up Format Cells dialog, choose Time, and pick the type you need in the right Type section:
Example to round pricing to nearest N.99
As shown in the table below, to round the prices up or down to end with .99, please copy or enter the formula below in cell C3, and press Enter to get the result:
=MOD(B3,1)-0.01

Related functions
The CEILING function returns a number rounded up to a nearest multiple of significance. For example, =CEILING(10.12,0.2) returns 10.2, it rounds 10.12 up to nearest multiple of 0.2.
The FLOOR function returns a number rounded down to a nearest multiple of significance. For example, =FLOOR(10.12,0.2) returns 10, it rounds 10.12 down to nearest multiple of 0.2.
The ROUND function rounds a number to a given number of digits.
The TRUNC function in Excel helps to get a truncated number based on a specific number of digits, it is used to reduce or eliminate the decimal portion of a number instead of rounding the number.
