How to convert time format from 12-hour to 24-hour and vice versa in Excel?

In Excel, different situations may require using either the 12-hour or 24-hour time format. For example, you might need to switch between "10:30 PM" and "22:30" depending on your task. This tutorial explains how to easily convert time formats between 12-hour and 24-hour styles using formulas.

The following formulas can help you convert time formats between 12-hour and 24-hour styles.

Convert 12-hour to 24-hour format in Excel:

Please enter this formula: =TEXT(A2,"[hh]:mm:ss") into a blank cell where you want to output the result, and then drag the fill handle down to apply this formula to the desired cells, and all the time formats have been converted from 12-hour to 24-hour format. See screenshot:

Convert 24-hour to 12-hour format in Excel:

To convert the time format from 24 hour to 12 hour, please type this formula: =TEXT(A2,"hh:mm:ss AM/PM") into a blank cell to locate the result, drag the fill handle down to apply this formula to the desired cells, and all the 24-hour time format cells have been converted to 12-hour format.
