Excel ISNONTEXT function

The ISNONTEXT function checks whether a value is non-text and returns a logical value of TRUE or FALSE.

Syntax

=ISNONTEXT(value)

Arguments

Value (required): The value you want to check. It can be entered as one of the following:
-- A cell reference;
-- A formula;
-- A hardcoded value.

Remarks

1. It returns one of the following logical values:
-- TRUE: Returns TRUE If a cell contains any value other than text. The values can be one of the following:
1) Numbers;
2) Dates;
3) Times;
4) Errors;
5) Non-text values returned by formulas.
- - FALSE: Returns FALSE if a cell contains text.
2. If a cell contains a formula, this function checks the result of the formula.

Return value

It returns a logical value, which is TRUE or FALSE.

Example

To check if values in the following table are text or not, you can do as follows.

Select a cell, for example C6, enter the formula below and press the Enter key to get the first result. Select this result cell and then drag its AutoFill Handle down to get the rest of the results.

=ISNONTEXT(B6)
