How to quickly split date into separate day, month and year in Excel?

Have ever tried to split a date cell into three columns with separate day, month and year as below screenshot shown? You can choose to type the day, month and year manually, but if there are hundreds of dates needed to split, you can choose one of quick tricks to solve it in Excel from below tutorial.

In Excel, you can use below simple formulas to extract day, month or year only from a date cell.

1. Select a cell, for instance, C2, type this formula =DAY(A2), press Enter, the day of the reference cell is extracted.

2. And go to next cell, D2 for instance, type this formula =MONTH(A2), press Enter to extract the month only from the reference cell.

3. Click at the next cell, E2, type this formula =YEAR(A2), and press Enter key, the year of the reference cell is extracted.

4. Then select the day, month and year cells, in this case, C2:E2, and drag the auto fill handle down to fill formulas to the cells you need. See screenshot:

Tip: In above formulas, A2 is the date cell you want to split to separate day, month and year.

In Excel, you also can use Text to Column function to split a column date to three columns with day, month and year.

1. Select the date column excluding header unless it has no header, and click Data > Text to Columns. See screenshot:

2. Check Delimited option in the Convert Text to Columns Wizard - Step 1 of 3, see screenshot:

3. Click Next> to go to Step 2 of 3, and check Other option only in the Delimiters section, and type the delimiter / into the next textbox. See screenshot:

4. Go on clicking Next> to go to the Step 3 of 3, and click to select a cell to output the split data.

5. Click Finish, and the date column has been split into three columns with day, month and year.

2. Then in the Apply Date Formatting dialog, select 03/2001 to convert date to month and year only, and select 3/14 to convert date to month and day only, and you can preview the results in Preview pane. See screenshot:

3. Click Ok or Apply, and the dates are all converted the date format you need.

TO SPLIT THE CELLS MEANS FIRST YOU HIGHLIGHT THE CELLS AND GO TO DATA AND PRESS THE TEXT TO COLUMNS FIXED WIDTH ( AS PER YOUR LETTER FIXED WIDTH). THEN TICK THE TEXT THEN GIVE NEXT PROCESS YOU WILL FIND THE THAT ALL OF THE TEXT HAS BEEN CHANGED.

Hi, Abu, you can use the text to columns to split the date 01/03/2019 to 3 columns(remember to format them as text), then use formula =CONCATENATE(A1," ",B1," ",C1) to combine them with spaces. See the screenshots.
