How to copy Combo Box value to active cell in Excel?

In some cases, you may need to copy the selected value from a Combo Box into the active cell. Normally, you need to get into the Combo Box, copy and paste it into the active cell manually. This article introduces a convenient method to auto update the active cell while selecting values in a Combo Box.

Copy Combo Box value to active cell with VBA code

The below VBA codes can help you copy combo box value to active cell automatically. Please do as follows.

VBA 1: Copy combo box value to active cell through Command Button

1. Firstly, you need to insert a Command Button into the worksheet as below screenshot shown.

2. Right click the command button, then click View Code from the right-clicking menu. See screenshot:

3. In the popping up Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications window, replace the original code in the Code window with the below VBA code.

VBA code: Copy Combo Box value to active cell

Private Sub CommandButton1_Click()
   ActiveCell.Value = Me.ComboBox1.Text
End Sub

Note: In the code, CommandButton1 is the name of the inserted command button, and ComboBox1 is the name of the Combo Box you will copy value from. Please change them as you need.

4. Press the Alt + Q keys to close the Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications window.

From now on, when you need to copy combo box value to active cell, please just select the cell, then click the Command Button to get it done.

VBA 2: Auto copy combo box value to active cell

The below VBA code can help you automatically update the active cell while selecting values in a Combo Box. You can do as follows.

1. Make sure the Design Mode is turned on under the Developer tab.

2. Right click the Combo Box you will copy value from, then click View Code from the right-clicking menu. See screenshot:

3. In the popping up Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications window, replace the original code in the Code window with the below VBA code.

Private Sub ComboBox1_Change()
  ActiveCell.Value = Me.ComboBox1.Value
End Sub

Note: In the code, ComboBox1 is the name of the Combo Box you will copy value from.

4. Press the Alt + Q keys to close the Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications window, and turn off the Design Mode under the Developer tab.

From now on, when selecting value from the Combo Box, this selected record will be displayed into the active cell automatically.
