Kutools for Word
Kutools for Word includes a handy Snapshot feature that lets you temporarily back up a document during editing. You can take a snapshot at any point and restore your document to that exact version later. This is especially useful if you need to experiment or undo significant changes without saving multiple files.

Feature location: Kutools Plus > Snapshot > Take Document Snapshot
Temporarily back up and restore your document with one click
- To take a snapshot of your current document, click Kutools Plus > Snapshot > Take Document Snapshot.
- If this is your first time using the tool, a warning dialog will appear. To prevent this message from appearing in the future, check "Don’t show this warning message again", then click OK.
- The snapshot is now saved. You can see your snapshot list by clicking on the Snapshot tool. The left image below shows one snapshot taken, while the right shows three (depending on how many you take).
- To restore your document to a previous version, simply click the snapshot you want to revert to.
Note: All snapshots will be cleared automatically when you close Word.
