Excel Formula: Count Days Left in Year or Month
In this tutorial, it provides the formulas to count how many days are left in the current month or year.

Days left in the current month
Generic formula:
EOMONTH(date,0)-date |
Syntaxt and Arguments
Date: the date that you want to count the left days in current month. |
Return Value
The formula returns a value in date format, you can change it to general or number format to get the actual number of left days.
How this formula work
In cell B3:B8 is a list of dates, to count the days left in the current month, please use below formula:
=EOMONTH(B3,0)-B3 |
Press Enter key and drag fill handle down to the cell B8.
Then click Home tab, and go to Number Format drop-down list to select General or Number to change the dates to numbers.
Explanation
EOMONTH function: gets the last day of the month before or after a certain number of months. Here, EOMONTH(B3,0) returns the total days in the current month.
Days left in current year
Generic formula:
=DATE(YEAR(date),12,31)-date |
Syntaxt and Arguments
Date: the date that you want to count the left days in current year. |
Return Value
The formula returns a numeric value.
How this formula work
In cell B3:B8 is a list of dates, to count the days left in the current year, please use below formula:
=DATE(YEAR(B3),12,31)-B3 |
Press Enter key and drag fill handle down to the cell B8.
Explanation
Year function: gets the year based on the date.
Date function: creates a date based on the given year, month, and day. Here DATE(YEAR(B3),12,31) will get the date 12/31/2019.
